🥬 Dirty Cabbage with Smoked Turkey Sausages
Ingredients
1½ lbs smoked turkey sausage, sliced
1 large head green cabbage, chopped
1 medium onion, diced
1 bell pepper, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
3 tbsp butter
1 tbsp olive oil
1 cup chicken broth
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp Cajun seasoning
½ tsp onion powder
½ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp black pepper
¼ tsp red pepper flakes, optional
Salt, to taste
2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley, for garnish
Instructions
Brown the sausage: Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add sliced turkey sausage and cook for 4–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned. Remove and set aside.
Sauté the vegetables: Add butter to the same skillet. Add onion and bell pepper and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened. Stir in the garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
Add the cabbage: Add the chopped cabbage and toss everything together. Cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage begins to soften.
Season: Sprinkle in smoked paprika, Cajun seasoning, onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Stir well.
Pour in the chicken broth and return the browned sausage to the skillet.
Cook: Cover and simmer over medium-low heat for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and the flavors have come together.
Remove the lid and cook for another 3–5 minutes if you want the cabbage more caramelized and less brothy.
Taste and adjust the seasoning. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot. ðŸŒðŸ¥¬ðŸ”¥
