Rolled Meat & Cheese Bake — Recipe
Ingredients
For the dough (or use store-bought flatbread/lavash):
2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
1 tbsp oil
¾ cup warm water
(Skip this section if using ready-made flatbread.)
For the meat filling:
300–400 g ground beef or lamb
1 small onion (finely chopped)
1 tomato (finely diced) — optional
2–3 tbsp parsley (chopped)
1 tsp paprika
½ tsp black pepper
½ tsp cumin
1 tsp salt
For the cheese mixture:
1–1½ cups mozzarella or melting cheese
½ cup cream or béchamel sauce (optional but makes it creamy)
For baking:
1 egg (for brushing)
A little melted butter
Extra parsley for garnish
1. Prepare the dough (if making it):
Mix flour, salt, sugar.
Add water gradually and knead until smooth (5–7 minutes).
Rest covered for 20–30 minutes.
Roll out into a thin flat circle or rectangle.
(If using store-bought lavash or tortilla-style flatbread, skip to Step 2.)
2. Spread the meat mixture
Mix the ground meat with onion, spices, parsley, and tomato.
Spread a thin layer evenly over the flatbread/dough — like in the top image.
3. Roll it up
Roll the sheet tightly into a long log.
4. Add cheese layer
Slice the rolled log into pieces OR leave whole.
Spread béchamel/cream or sprinkle cheese over the top,
OR stuff some cheese inside if desired.
5. Bake
Preheat oven to 190–200°C (375–400°F).
Place rolls on a baking tray.
Brush lightly with egg wash or melted butter.
Bake 25–35 minutes until golden and bubbling.
6. Serve
Sprinkle chopped parsley on top and serve hot.
Pairs well with yogurt sauce or garlic dip.
